Why "flush" a diesel engine?
Today's modern diesel engines are a far cry from the oil-burner diesels of days gone by. Engine oil sludge build-up is increasingly causing major problems with these new generation engines. Extended oil change intervals, more city-type driving, and the necessary emission control devices incorporated on today's vehicles is a recipe for black oil sludge and piston rings sticking to be worse than ever!
Why do I need to flush my engine?
There are a myriad of factors causing carbon deposits to increase and accumulate in combustion chambers and exhaust spaces of a diesel engine. Piston ring grooves can quickly be adversely affected by this hard carbon build-up. Slow, stop/start city driving is notorious for making this problem worse. With this problem comes Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valves becoming clogged, leading to more soot contaminating the engine oil, as well as the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The increased regeneration cycles of the DPF often dilutes the engine oil with diesel and soot.
The incredibly fine tolerances of modern diesel fuel injectors often result in them becoming easily fouled, contributing to poor fuel delivery, combustion and consequently, further deposits entering the engine oil.
A large proportion of today’s modern diesel engines are travelling twice as far as older diesels before the recommended manufacturer's oil change is due. 15,000-mile oil change intervals is a very long period between oil changes! Even after a Dealer's prescribed log book service, the engine oil can be black on the dipstick before even leaving the Dealership!
Once your diesel-powered vehicle has done 60,000 miles or more, it will almost certainly be time to carry out an effective engine flush. If it has missed a scheduled oil change, or if the oil filter was not changed between services the engine could possibly need a flush as early as 20,000 or 30,000 miles!
The goal should be to ensure the engine is kept clean from new. The engine oil should always “look, smell and feel clean” immediately following an oil and oil filter change. No immediate discoloration should be visible. An effective flush at each oil change will ensure all old black, sooty and sludgy oil is removed.
The remarkable benefit of performing an oil flush on a diesel engine with Flushing Oil Concentrate is that in almost all cases an increase in cylinder compression results. Low Oil Pressure fix
The owner of this 1997 Chev Astro van had this to say -
"Our old, yet mostly reliable 1997 Astro van has had an increasingly worsening low oil pressure problem for a very long time. At idle, oil pressure sat around 30psi, and at higher RPM, it could only manage just over 40psi. Highly recommended by a friend, I did the engine flush with Flushing Oil Concentrate. The very first start with new oil, and immediately the oil pressure at idle was 55psi. At highway RPM it now sits solidly on 60psi. I couldn't be happier with the result! If not regularly flushed correctly, sludge build up will occur in all parts of an engine, including the oil pump and its internal components. When this happens, usually the pressure regulating valve will stick which results in a pressurization problem. If the
valve sticks in the open position, the oil returns to the suction side of the oil pump, resulting in a low or no oil pressure condition. If the valve sticks in the almost or fully closed position an over pressurization condition can occur, causing the filter to swell or the gasket/seal to burst, causing a serious oil leak.
We have seen Flushing Oil Concentrate fix low oil pressure problems many times. In so many cases, ridding the entire engine of sludge and hard contaminants solves a host of problems, not just oil pressure problems, but also overheating, low compression, excessive oil use and engine blowby.
